THANK YOU FOR YOUR OVERWHELMING SUPPORT!
RESTORING LEADERSHIP, RESTORING PRIDE
Jim's leadership skills were recognized by his peers during his time at the Chamber when he was chosen to serve on the Chambers of Commerce Executives of Ohio Board of Directors, an honor for which he was truly grateful. In 2013, he was nominated and awarded the Young Professionals of Ashtabula County "Top 5 Under 45" Award in recognition of his service to the community and his work as City Manager.
Jim served for many years on the St. John School Board, introducing the President/Principal Management Structure which is now used in schools throughout the Diocese of Youngstown during his term as Chairperson. Education is important to him and he also served as a Board Member and Treasurer for the Partnership for Education in Ashtabula County.
Jim is a 2018 graduate, "the best class," of LEADERShip Ashtabula. LEADERship educates people about the county and region, and it engages people by making them aware of interesting volunteer opportunities. When each class graduates, they add to the list an enlightened group of energized citizens that have new insights about the county. The graduates draw on one another to address initiatives and join task forces and boards.
Jim also serves on the Ashtabula Distance Runners Club (ADR) Board of Directors. The Club has organized Couch to 5k workouts for new runners, a Run for your Life support group focused on addiction recovery and blood drives in the area. In addition ADR provides scholarships to high school track and cross country athletes based on their athletic and academic achievements and service to their community and school. Jim runs many of the races in the area and was the race director for the Walley Eye'd 5K which takes place during the Annual Wine & Walleye Festival each year.
Jim is a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, the East Ashtabula Club, Elks Lodge #208 and is a 1st Degree within the Knights of Columbus. He coached Jr. High and Varsity Football for many years at St. John and served as head coach for three years. Jim has volunteered his time emceeing events like "Men Who Cook" for Catholic Charities and the "Festival of Trees" for St. John School, both of which are major fundraisers for each organization. He even partnered with the President of Council as a comedian for the Ashtabula Downtown Development Associations Downtown Laughs fundraiser in 2013 and 2014. Jim was the keynote speaker for the Lakeside Class of 2012 at their graduation ceremony.
Jim has been committed to serving the Ashtabula community long before considering running for political office. He continues to volunteer his time and resources to these and many other organizations, working together to make our community a better place to live, work and play.
Jim is no stranger to serving his community. At one time, he served on a total of 15 Boards and Committees throughout Ashtabula County and the State of Ohio. It has always been important to Jim the City of Ashtabula and the County are both represented across the State of Ohio. He has been able to keep his commitment to volunteerism and community service even with his responsibilities as City Manager. Jim believes being involved helps open the lines of communication and promotes cooperation with organizations trying to make a difference in the community.
Jim currently volunteers his time on the following boards and committees:
Before taking office, Jim served on the City of Ashtabula's Planning Commission and Administrative Board. During his tenure as President of the Ashtabula Area Chamber of Commerce, he was appointed by the Ashtabula County Commissioners to the Ashtabula County Workforce Policy Committee. He also served on the County Chambers of Commerce Board, Secretary of the Ashtabula Chamber Foundation and as a board member of The Council of Foundations for Ashtabula County.
